Autogas is the name applied to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) when it is used as fuel for road vehicles. LPG is a clean, safe, and versatile alternative automotive fuel to petrol with global consumption rising rapidly in recent times.
LPG comes from two processes: it is a by-product of both natural gas processing or/and the crude oil refining process.
LPG has an excellent safety record throughout the world, in storage, transportation and use. In road transport, LPG is much safer to use than petrol. LPG is stored in the vehicle, under pressure in liquid form in a specially designed tank. This tank being constructed from thicker gauge steel, made from high carbon steel and 20 times more puncture resistant than conventional plastic petrol tanks. In fact in crash testing, an LPG tank proves to be far less likely to rupture. In fire tests, LPG tanks are less likely to explode than petrol tanks as the pressure relief valves protect them. LPG is non-toxic, non-poisonous, not a groundwater contaminant, and has the lowest flammability range of any alternative fuel. The Queen of England, various government ministers of UK, Poland, Korea, Japan, Turkey, Thailand, Russia, US and many other countries have most vehicles that run on LPG - this would surely not be the case if it was unsafe.
As soon as the engine stalls or is turned off, the flow of gas is stopped. The gas tank is made of steel, unlike many modern petrol tanks which are made of plastic. The gas cannot spill from the tank no matter what angle the car ends up at. In the event of a serious fire then obviously it is important to vacate the vehicle and retire to a safe distance before calling the emergency services, whether or not you have a gas converted vehicle.
If a pipe should be damaged or break, the excess flow safety valve instantly shuts off the flow of gas due to the sudden change in pressure.

LPG has a number of benefits which includes:
EXOGAS is the only official autogas conversion company to enable vehicles transition from petrol/diesel to LPG/CNG - the world’s most popular alternative fuels. The basis of EXOGAS is a broad network of partners with expertise in Natural Gas Engineering, Computer Engineering, Health Safety Environment, Research & Development, Vehicle Technology, and High-Performance Support.
EXOGAS has different classes of gas conversion kits and tanks to suit every vehicle make and model. We convert all petrol-powered vehicles with diesel-gas technology pending.
Slightly. Typical road test figures for an EXOGAS powered car read as follows: Toyota Corolla - Speed on LPG 118mph, 119 mph on Petrol, Acceleration 0 - 62 mph on gas 13.0 seconds and 12.8 on petrol. There is an approximate 10% reduction in overall vehicle performance due to the lower energy content per volume of LPG compared to that of petrol. This in turn, smoother acceleration in LPG vehicles compared to petrol.
No. On the contrary, as the fuel is gaseous, LPG mixes better with air than petrol and you should get far less wear on the engine and certain components when using LPG due to the absence of acids and carbon deposits. But since local gas fitters use old gas carburetor spare-parts for fuel injection engine installations, your engine integrity gets compromised with time. EXOGAS provides high class, factory-direct, 5th and 6th Generation autogas systems that ensure gas supply exactly same as your petrol system. Unlike the carburetor and burner systems, our sequential LPG injection system supplies gas directly into the combustion chamber reducing gas losses thereby. Converting your fuel injection engine with a gas carburetor system is like you putting a square peg in a round hole. Convert with a gas injection system to fit your fuel injection engine requirements to ensure smooth running of your vehicle and prolong engine life twice that of petrol. Learn more
Yes, you can change back from LPG to Petrol simply at the flick of a Switch which will be placed on the dashboard.
Installations are calibrated to automatically changeover in optimizing fuel switches taking into account essential engine and tank parameters. When your gas level drops very low, our system switches automatically to petrol while on the road. The changeover is smooth and unnoticeable and goes back to gas after a refill therefore you shouldn’t worry about when to switch fuels. Also, we install a fuel switch (Petrol/gas switch) on your dashboard with which you can switch between fuels and see the exact level of gas in the tank. There is also an integrated speaker in the switch which notifies you on the most important parameters of the gas and petrol system. After conversion, a service staff will train you on how to drive with EXOGAS systems and provide you with a user-manual in addition to your conversion documents to familiarize you with your vehicle fuel system operations.
No, you do not have to adjust your driving style. Cold starting is not a problem. The engine performance is exactly same as on petrol. There is no spilling and no possibility of theft or pilfering of gas. Engine noise is low and you'll even be driving SMART in a cleaner and more environmentally friendly manner. Here, come for a Test Drive and see for yourself.
Your vehicle warranty is not voided by the installation of our autogas system. However, the vehicle manufacturer will not warrant the autogas system (unless fitted or endorsed by them) and the manufacturer may not warrant anything that is affected by having LPG system fitted or running the vehicle on LPG. Our systems are covered by EXOGAS and our production partners in Europe. Extended warranty products are also available to cover your vehicle for longer periods.
The days of gas tank taking over booths are gone. There are new tank innovations that preserve your boot space for other things, like luggage and stuff. The new toroid LPG tanks are doughnut-shaped and typically fitted within the spare tyre well. They come in various sizes to fit just about any vehicle. They are also available in versions suitable for either liquid or vapor injection systems with different mount styles.
Not only will your engine be in better condition as LPG reduces engine wear and tear, there are also an increasing number of motorists attracted by the money saving benefits of LPG. With our systems installed, your vehicle has the advantage of a dual-fuel-system (petrol/gas) which might be preferable to buyers since it will be considered as an additional specification for your vehicle.
You should experience no problems with increased insurance premiums. Some insurance companies may even offer a lower rate for EXOGAS converted vehicles.
The idea of Autogas in most countries is its benefit to a greener environment reducing exhaust emissions at a significant rate. The price of Autogas is driven by the international LPG price which follows other oil prices but generally lower than those of petrol and diesel. All labor, environmental agencies and conservative governments have arranged to cut down on vehicle emissions so there is no reason to suppose that policies of rewarding the 'green' motorist will not continue for the foreseeable future. Please check ‘news’ section.
Petrol engines are normally suitable for LPG at the moment. Diesel vehicles can be converted too but since diesel-gas (CNG) is unavailable in the country, refill seems impossible therefore EXOGAS withholds diesel-gas conversions for now.
Yes, most OEMs have been offering cars and vans converted to run on Autogas. Ford, GMC, Benz, Audi, Volvo and some of the other manufacturers are selling vehicles that run on Autogas.
The primary advantage of a dual-fuel-system over a dedicated ‘LPG Only’ vehicle is its elimination of range anxiety compared to conventional alternative fuel vehicles. In the event that a driver has traveled out of range of an LPG refIll station, the vehicle can run on petrol until a gas station is reached. Moreover, spare-part components for such vehicles are very rare on the market so in case of breakdown, vehicle must be converted to petrol, then again, install new gas injection systems to enable vehicle run on a dual-fuel system. With seasonal shortages of gas in the country as usual, it is advisable to buy petrol car and install EXOGAS Autogas systems to avoid encountering such problems and complications when that happens.
Basically NO! You need full training to install the systems. EXOGAS Technicians are professional motor conversion engineers and have been fully trained and certified by EXOGAS, EuropeGAS, GSA and EPA in the safe installation of LPG systems. We offer training courses if you are interested. Train Here
No. EXOGAS conversion systems have gone through rigorous testing and licensing procedures with the Ghana Standard Authority and European Autogas Standardizations. Our conversion systems are engineered for specific vehicle platform rather than a box of universal parts.
In 2010 there were 200 gas filling stations in Ghana. Now there are over 600 gas filling stations and the number is increasing rapidly. EXOGAS can provide a refueling facility on preferable premises in case of a fleet installation for corporate and commercial bodies. Also, Bulk users can have their own refill facilities installed. For private persons, find the closest gas station on our mobile app on iOS and Android.
Refueling a vehicle with LPG takes roughly the same time as with petrol or diesel. LPG is metered in by the Litre through a similar pumping system with a one way valve incorporated into the filler for safety. Unlike petrol, an LPG dispensing nozzle cannot spray fuel unless connected to the vehicles refueling connector. LPG dispensers refill on average at 10-12 gallons per minute making it one of the fastest alternative fuels to refuel. Also, we design and make refill points according to the preferences of our customers.
EXOGAS conversion systems come with everything needed together with the technical expertise to convert your vehicle. Including all components, tanks, brackets, hoses, mounts, parts, accessories all the way down to bolts and nuts.
Our Engineered Conversion Systems have been designed for ease of installation. At our conversion centers, two trained technicians could convert a pickup truck in 6 hours and then drive downtown on the newly converted vehicle for on-track testing and calibration. Typically, a trained technician can convert a vehicle in a day or two.
Using autogas provides cleaner air, less CO2 and a reduced amount of particulate matter. Converting a vehicle means making a significant contribution to a greener planet. When filling up with petrol or diesel, chemical vapors escape into the atmosphere and can also be inhaled causing harmful effects on the body. This does not happen with Autogas.
Yes, of course. There is an approximate 10% power reduction on LPG which in many cases, seem unnoticeable. This is due to the lower energy content per volume of LPG compared to that of petrol which in turn enhances smooth acceleration in LPG powered vehicles. Also, LPG vehicles are not recommended for enclosed spaces like underground parking lots, indoor garage, and road tunnels. This is to avoid gas occupying secret spaces in case there is a leak since LPG is heavier and displaces air.
The only demerit of EXOGAS though will be the cost of conversion depending on the type of car.
